Majestic SEO results

By comparing their stats I can see that IGN the more popular website shows significantly less discovery than the other two pages. This is understandable because it is a website that is very popular and has been well established for many years. While Eventhubs shows significant movement around the year 2010 which is when the website had down its re-launch and the fighting game community was becoming slightly more popular. While Didyouknowgaming shows the most movement in the last year this is mainly due to the fact that the website was created within the last two years. It is slowly gaining popularity due to the fact that it has started to branch out to other social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and more recently has started to feature videos on YouTube.

Pagerank Results

First Website:  http://ca.ign.com/

Page Rank: 8 /10

This was my choice for the most popular website. IGN is an American based review website focused on a variety of media but oriented mostly towards video games. It is a well-established website with international following and it score very high in the page rank checker. I feel that this result is reflected in the professionalism with which the website presents its content and because the many followers it has often recur to this site for more information regarding videogames.

Page Rank: 5 / 10

This website had a moderate ranking compared to IGN. You can tell by difference in the website design that IGN is professionally done while didyouknowgaming.com has a more amateur feel to it. Although it probably has solid following it does not have as many links as IGN does. I feel that is why the page rank is an accurate portrayal of this website popularity.

Page Rank: 4 / 10

In this case I picked a more niche topic within videogames in order to see the results for a website with medium traffic. This website specifically focuses on fighting games. I believe it received a ranking of 4 out of 10 because the user traffic and following isn’t as in depth as the first website. Also while the design of the website is mainly in blog form similar to the standardized options you receive from building any blog from the ground up while IGN has its own unique style.

Answers to Questions

1.       What is your bounce rate?  What does this mean?

The bounce rate for my blog was 27.27%. This number refers to the rate of people that viewed my website but immediately left without browsing any of the displayed webpages on my blog.

2.   What is your most popular blog posting?
-        What measurement did you use to determine this? Time on Page? Number of Pageviews? Unique pageviews? (Why?)

my most popular post was the one about my career goals. One of the tools I used was the in page analytic's.  It demonstrated the amount of times each link on the blog got hits by percentages and the amount of comments that were left on each blog posting. It is the easiest one to use because it shows the overall view of what the blog actually looks like. At the same time it showed the average time visitors spent on certain pages of the blog. Along with that the other two tabs you get to see both the page views and the unique page views, the first one keeps count of how many times a page has been viewed altogether while the latter keeps track of number of visits during which a specified page was viewed at least once.

Google Analytics

I really had no idea there was tools like this for free. I always figured software that would display information such as Google analytics does would have to be a private program that would be run by big corporation. It;s good to see that tools like this are readily available to anyone. Some of the more interesting things I found  about Google analytics is the fact that you can separate the information by the date and time at which the site was visited. I feel this would be a extremely relevant tool to see what time your website is being visited.  In a similar manner it even tells you from what location you are receiving the most visits. Although it serves a basic purpose for my digital marketing blog, I can see how this software can help marketers redirect their focus on specific aspects of their website by the information provided. One of the more interesting aspects was the demographics section that displayed what language the user that visited the site spoke or had his computer set up to. Given data such as that I can see how marketers would want to redirect their focus to cater to certain different languages. There were several other sections that had interesting data that seem fairly useful such as, what browser the different visitors were using, this seems like a useful tool for adjusting anything that you embed into your blog so that it will be compatible to run with the specified browser.Google analytics seamlessly provides marketers with valuable information, that may not have been originally intended for that purpose.

My Favourite Things

I have lot of things I enjoy doing a few of the would have to be:

- Reading either books or comics
- Playing video games
- Watching movies with my friends
- Playing guitar
- Sleeping in
- Stealing your dreams and aspirations!

My Career Goals

My short term career goals is to finish my program within the next year. Following that I hope to find a full time job within my field and hopefully within the company I work in. I have worked at Empire Theatres for approximately 6 years as a part time manager and the only reason I haven't applied for a full time job is because my focus has been on school. Ideally I would like to work in the marketing department of the company but that would mean moving to Nova Scotia given that their head office is located there. Since I am not too sure of moving out east I would probably try to find something within the GTA.
